Deja Vu 1 & 2 were point-and-click style games of adventure and exploration originally developed by a small team at ICOM Simulations for the Macintosh. These were the bookend games in their "MACventure series," as the games have been affectionately dubbed. The original lineup consisted of Deva Vu, Unintived, Shadowgate, and Deja Vu 2. All but the Deja Vu sequel were later ported to the NES by Kemco.

The NES version of the first featured a fresh coat of paint and some tweaks with the interface, as well as some fun music. Although Deja Vu was the only MACventure title to receive a sequel during the original development, Shadowgate is the one to have persisted. Sadly, Deja Vu has largely fallen out of the public consciousness.

There was a brief revival in 1999 when Vatical Entertainment reworked both games for the GameBoy Color and released them both on a single cartridge. They took the NES interface and further tweaked it to fit onto the GBC's small screen. This marks the only non-PC/MAC release of Deja Vu 2.

But enough about all of that extended universe stuff. This is a fun little game on its own. I remember reading about this in Nintendo Power when I was a kid, but never got around to renting it. Having recently rediscovered it, I envy Ace's amnesia…since now I can no longer play this game for the first time. On the other hand, I'm not in hock to Las Vegas mobsters, so I guess there are advantages to retaining my memories.
