Mean Streets of Chicago
Chicago Track
Move back out of this room.
Chicago Train Station
Use your Coin on the man hanging out here to buy a newspaper. Take the either the Newsclip3 or Newsclip4 from the stand, then Examine it. Looks like a local mobster was just killed, and he might have had connections to our old pal Joey Siegel. As a bonus, this gives us the Morgue address. Open the door behind you and Move out.
Outside Chicago Train Station
Move into the conveniently located taxi.
Taxi
Why, it's your old pal Gabby! He owes you a favor big enough that he gives you free taxi rides. Would have been handy for him to have been on duty in the first game…
Anyway, Speak to him and select the Adison address. Once you've arrived, Move out of the cab.
Outside Apartment
Open the door and Move inside
Apartment Foyer
Use the Key1 on the door at the end of the hall. Move inside.
Ace's Apartment
This place is trashed. From the smell of things, it must have been that pesky Stogie character. Time to reclaim some of your stuff. Take the Flashlight laying on the floor. If you didn't grab the cigar ring from the Hotel Room earlier, make sure to Take the Cigar Ring2. You can also Take the Light and the Coat if you really want to.
Open the drawer laying on the floor. Take the Knife and. Open the Box1 and take all the Bullets inside. Now Open the Coat, Take the Gun, 10 Dollar, 25 Cents, and the second 25 Cents found inside. Some brief prep work before we move on: Use all of the Bullets on the Gun to load it, then Open the Knife. Move back out to the Taxi.
Optional
Apartment Foyer
Use your Key2 on the rightmost mailbox, and Take the Envelope2 inside it. Open that to find the Letter2, which you should also Take. Examine the Letter2 to see a message from your informant, Vinny Tulussa. He tells you about large ice cream purchases being made by the Nordic Shoe Company. They're apparently getting a suspicious amount of ice cream containers shipped in. That's certainly…interesting?
That takes care of the apartment, make your way back to the Taxi.
Taxi
Speak to Gabby and ask him to take you to Peoria.
Outside Joe's Place
We're back at your old stomping grounds. Looks like no one took over the business after Joey got iced, so everything's boarded up. Use the square in the top left of the Move Map, or hit the A Button just to the left of the door, to Move into the Alley.
Alley
Move up onto the fire escape.
Fire Escape 2F
Hit the boarded up window to shake one of the boards loose. Move through the window.
Joe's Office
We're back in the ol' murder scene. You can Open the desk and Take the Pencil if you want to, but it serves no purpose other than being an Easter Egg for the first game. The main goal in this room is to Open the telephone on the wall and Take the Key4 inside of it. New key in hand, make your way back down to the Alley.
Alley
Move to the lower left exit.
Behind Joe's
Here we are at Joe's back door. Open the box laying on the ground and Take the Key3. You can also take the Duck (some Peking Duck, to be specific) if you want, but the only purpose is to Use it on Self and eat the gross food you found in an alley box. You can also Take the Empty Can if you need more inventory, but it doesn't do anything.
In the first game, there was a door you could shoot the lock on to gain entry. You can Use your Gun on this door in the same way if you want to. If you want to conserve Bullets, however, you can Open the Knife and then Use the Knife on the door to jimmy open the lock. Move inside.
Bar Corridor
The electricity for the bar seems to be shut off. This room is fine, but if you venture further in you'll be in trouble. If you Use the Flashlight on Self it will turn on and illuminate your surroundings. The batteries start out fairly weak though, and will burn out after taking enough actions. It's possible to get through here with enough light to spare, which is what we'll be concentrating on here. If you explore on your own and the light dies, you can travel back to Vegas and buy some Batteries from the guy in the Train Station.
At any rate, let's go exploring. Open the door at the end of the hall and Move through.
Main Bar
Open the door on the left and Move through
Wine Cellar
Hit the section of the wine rack with a single bottle. Move into the newly-opened secret passage.
Hidden Hall
Open the door on the left and Move through.
Illegal Casino
Use the Key4 on the righthand slot machine. Take the Card and Diary inside, then make your way back to Behind Joe's before your flashlight runs out.
Behind Joe's
Turn your flashlight back off. Examine the Card to get the Cottage address, which is also Sugar Shack's place. The last time you saw her, it was on a random chance and she almost shot you. Now Examine the Diary to see that it belongs to Joe Siegel. Better Open this bad boy up and see what juicy secrets he was journaling about! Hmmm…seems to be a list of payments and dates.
- Mar. 24
- No. 1 - $118,000
- Apr. 15
- No. 0 - $24,000
- Apr. 18
- No. 3 – $145,000
- Apr. 25
- No. 2 - $131,000
- May 15
- No. 0 - $27,000
- May 19
- No. 6 - $128,000
- Jun. 15
- No. 0 - $32,000
- Jun. 24
- No. 5 - $163,000
- Jul. 10
- No. 4 – 138,000
- Jul. 15
- No. 0 - $29,000
The list keeps going, but the No. 0 recipient never appears again. Which is especially interesting since the amounts paid to the mysterious No. 0 add up to $112,000. Could whoever No. 0 is have the missing money we're trying to track down? Seems very likely, but we still need proof and an identity to get Malone off our backs. Head back to the Taxi.
Taxi
Speak to Gabby and have him take you to Cottage.
Outside Sugar's Apartment
The door at the bottom of the stairs is our target, but it's locked and none of our keys work. Like the last door, you can either Use the Gun on it to shoot the lock off, or Use the Knife to jimmy this lock open. Move inside.
Sugar's Apartment
You can Take the Perfume and the Tissue if your desire to add inventory is overwhelming. Neither serve much use, unless you want to see Ace badly interpret what to do with those items. Open the table, and Take the Bank Slips inside. Open them, and you'll see four different deposits:
- 4/15/39 - $1,200
- 5/15/39 - $1,350
- 6/15/39 - $1,600
- 7/15/39 - $1,450
All those payments happen the same day as the payment to No. 0 listed in the Diary. Looks like Sugar Shack was taking a 5% cut on whatever scheme this was. Open the wardrobe in the back of the room. Take the Vacuum and Uniform you see inside. You can also Take the Laundry1 and the Dress, but you can't do anything with them. Examining the Uniform reveals that it belongs to Sgt. McMurphy, who is the one who tried to arrest you for Siegel's murder.
Open up the Vacuum and Take out the Bag. Use the Knife on the Bag to reveal the Envelope3 inside. Open the Envelope3 and Take the Letter3. Examine this to see that McMurphy was facilitating payments between Siegel and Captain Carlston. Seems Siegel was setting up a side hustle involving a guy with a big scar over his eye. What could he have been up to? And did the Bank Slips belong to him and not Sugar?
You can also Take the Newsclip5 that's on the bed, but it just shows that Sugar cut out an obituary. We're done here, so head back to the Taxi.
Taxi
Speak with Gabby and have him take you to the Morgue.
Outside Morgue
If we just head in now, we're not going to get very far. There's no way they'll let a random Private Eye, no matter how second rate they may be, just wander around the morgue. Time for subterfuge!
Use the Trench Coat and the Pants on Self to remove them. Now Use the Uniform on Self to disguise yourself as a cop. Ingenious disguise in place, Open the door and Move inside.
Morgue Lobby
There's a small gate blocking the path back to the main morgue area. Open it, then Open the door along the back wall and Move ahead into the next area. As a side note, if you aren't in your stolen police uniform, you won't be able to Open the gate.
Morgue
Open the door to drawer 2. If you Examine the body, you'll see that he has a scar over one of his eyes. Sounds like the guy described in McMurphy's Letter3! He was involved in the sketchy payments that Joey was running, so hopefully the dead man will go against type and tell tales. You can Examine the toe tag to see that his name is Thomas Bondwell. Take the Nametag2 for later use. You can also Open the other drawer and take the Nametag1, but you can't do anything useful with it. Move back out into the Lobby.
Morgue Lobby
Use the Nametag2 with the attendant. He'll pull out Bondwell's belongings in the form of Box2. Open the box, then Take the Wallet2 and Key5. Open the Wallet2 and Take the Claim Ticket. You can also Take the 10 Dollar if you need more money, and License2 if you need more useless inventory. Head back into the street.
Outside Morgue
Use the Uniform on Self to remove it. Now Use the Trench Coat and Pants on Self to get back into your normal attire. Move into the Taxi.
Taxi
Speak with Gabby and have him take you to the Chicago station.
Outside Chicago Train Station
Move inside.
Chicago Train Station
Examine the board above the newsstand, and find a train heading for Las Vegas. The doors at the top of the screen are the track entrances. From left to right you can go to Track 2, Track 3, Track 4, and Track 5. We're going to follow the same procedure that we did earlier; so make your way to a Vegas train, pay the conductor, Move around or Examine stuff until the train leaves.
