Sphynx Riddles
The Sphynx Room contains, much to the wonderment of all, a large Sphynx blocking a staircase. Try to Move past him up the stairs) and he’ll ask you a riddle. To solve the riddle, simply Use the object he’s describing on him, and he’ll let you pass. After you solve it, each time you reenter and try to Move up the stairs, he’ll ask you a new one for a total of six different riddles.
If you mess up the answer, he just teleports you to the Drafty Hall, so don’t stress too much. At any rate, here are the solutions:
- “It has towns, but no houses. Forests, but no trees. Rivers, but no fish.”
- Answer: Map
- “You look at me, I look back. Your right hand raises, I my left. You speak, but I in vain.”

- “I've no eyes, but once did see, thoughts had I but now I'm white and empty.”
- Answer: Skull
- “I'm a fire's friend, my body swells with wind. With my nose I blow, how the embers glow!”
- Answer: Bellows
- “Long neck, no hands. 100 legs, cannot stand. Born of forest nest, against a wall I rest.”
- Answer: Broom
- “First burnt and beaten, drowned and pierced with nails, then stepped on by long-faced animals.”
