Level 1 - Elemental Tower

Wall Walk

After the dragon drops you off, immediately turn around so that you're facing the edge of the wall. Look to the right and head toward the barrels sitting in the corner near the turret. Sitting on one of them is a length of Old Rope that should be picked up. Rope in hand, turn back to the Keep you were facing when dropped off. Head forward through the open doorway.

Upper Hall

Once in the hallway, turn to the right and make your way out of the other doorway in here.

Wall Walk Stairway

There will be a large block of ice in your path, and clicking on it causes Raven to comment and a spell tutorial pops up. Click through everything, then bring up your spell list and highlight the Fireball spell. Use it on the ice to melt it, then proceed forward and head down the stairs.

Middle Hall

Head forward to kick start your first enemy encounter! The turn-based combat in this game is all about finding the best strategy to defeat the creature being fought. The Ice Wraith is pretty easy.

General Strategy: Not much too this guy. He's a decent tutorial to show you how the battle system works. Just attack, no real special strategy here.

How to Defeat:

  • Round 1: The Ice Wraith attacks. On your turn, cast either Ice Shards or Fireball.
  • Round 2: The Ice Wraith attacks again. Respond by casting whichever spell is available to use.
  • Round 3: After a final attack, cast your available spell to dispatch the enemy.

Once you've dispatched the Wraith and gained the Winter's Grasp spell, turn left at the intersection. Move down the hall a bit, and then turn left and enter the Dining Hall.

Dining Hall

Look to the right to spot a large spoked wheel on the wall. Head over there, and use the Old Rope on the contraption to fix the gear system. Then click on the large wheel to operate it, which opens up a door in the adjacent hallway. While we're here, might as well pick up the Hammer sitting conveniently under the wheels. We're still not quite done here yet, however. Turn to the left and make your way over to the fireplace at the back of the room. Pick up the Right Medal sitting on the mantel, then turn back and leave the room.

Middle Hall

Turn left and move forward, then left again at the end of the hall and through the doorway.

Storage Hallway

Ignore the gap in the wall for now and move forward through the door opened by the wheel contraption in the Dining Hall.

Storage Stairway

Make your way to the back of the room and then head down the stairs.

Collapsed Stairway

There's a locked door on the other side of the rubble, but we have no way to open that up yet so just move forward and out into the hallway.

Lower Hall

There's a locked door on the left side of the hallway, and some holes in the wall on the right that should be setting off your puzzle senses. Puzzle can't be fully solved yet, however, so just keep moving forward and into the next room.

Dragon Room

No sooner do you enter the room than you are confronted by the Young Dragon!

General Strategy: The main goal is to kill both heads at the same time. If only one dies, the other will deliver a deadly attack.

How to Defeat:

  • Round 1: The right head will bite you. On your turn, cast either Ice Shards or Fireball on one of the heads. I usually go for the right head first.
  • Round 2: The left head begins charging an attack. Use your available single-target spell on the other head from the first round (for me this would be the left head).
  • Round 3: The right head will join in the fun of charging an attack. Now that they're both charging, cast Winter's Grasp to interrupt their attack charge. Both heads will not return to their neutral state.
  • Round 4 and onward: Repeat these three steps, but swap the spells/heads. For instance, if in Round 1 you cast Fireball on the right head, then in Round 4 cast Fireball on the left head. After a second Winter's Grasp the dragon will be out of HP.

After the battle, and your acquisition of the Firestorm spell, move up the stairs.

Armory

Once you reach the top of the stairs, walk to the bench at the back of the room. Pick up the Left Medal, then head all the way back to the Middle Hall.

Middle Hall

Head over to the set of locked doors across the hall from the Dining Hall. There are two square holes on either side of the door...although, one of them has a skull awkwardly shoved into it. Grab the expired noggin' to acquire Yorick. He shall henceforth be your companion and hint-giver. Once he's been recovered, place the Left Medal and Right Medal in their respective slots. Open up the newly unlocked door and head inside.

Study

Walk forward to the back of the room. Inspect the small chest sitting on the mantel and Raven will move it to the side. Use the Hammer on the crumbling wall that was just revealed to break it away. It also breaks you hammer, leaving you with an even better Hammer Handle. In the small alcove you cleverly created, there are four crossbow bolts. Pick up all four to gain a complete Set of Bolts. We could turn to the right and head down the stairs, but there's an enemy down there that we can't defeat yet so it's time for a detour. Make your way back to the Storage Room.

Storage Room

Move through the gaping hole in the wall.

Turret Stairs

Move as far as you can up the steps and against the wall. A section of the missing stair should be highlighted, and Raven will note that there's a hole there. Use the Set of Bolts and Raven will jam a crossbow bolt into the wall to create a makeshift step. Slowly move forward and repeat this process two more times to be able to reach the turret. Note: the third spot to use a bolt will not highlight, just keep trying to use the bolt until it works.

Turret

Some fun relics under glass here, a crumbled wall to the right, and an odd pink crystal formation floating to your left. But we're not here for any of that. Move into the circle of relics and take the Cloak hanging up. Use the Cloak to equip it. If you inspect it, or read the story, you'll learn that this will provide you some added protection from fire and ice spells. Once you've got your new garment equipped, make your way back to the Study.

Study

Move down the stairs we saw earlier.

Chapel

Nothing much to do here, so just head forward and through the door along the left wall. Wait, oh no! It's the Elemental!

General Strategy: If you don't have the Cloak equipped, then you'll die to the first attack. Once you have that elemental protection wrapped around you, this fight becomes pretty easy.

How to Defeat:

  • Round 1: An ice attack will be lobbied against you. Respond by casting Fireball.
  • Round 2: After being assaulted by a fire attack, cast Ice Shards to do damage and inflict Freezing status.
  • Round 3: Another fierce attack, but luckily casting Winter's Grasp will be enough to drain the enemy of its HP.

After it falls you'll learn the Ignite spell, and can now safely move through the doorway.

Lower Hall 2

Walk forward and through the doors across the hall.

Fire Pillars

From this doorway, walk forward and keep your eye on the left-hand wall. On the floor you should spot a Key, which you should pick up. Keep making your way to the end of the room, then turn right and open up the door along that wall and move through.

Collapsed Stairway

We're back here! Turn right and move into the Lower Hall 1.

Lower Hall 1

We can now use the Key to unlock the door on the left wall. After you've used it on the lock, open the door and move through.

Scriptorium

Walk up to the windows, then turn around so that you're looking through the doorway. From this vantage point, you can line up the runes on the pillars with the holes in the wall. Strafe left and right until you identify all four, then head back into the Fire Pillars room.

Fire Pillars

The only door in here we haven't been to yet is conveniently across from the door leading to the Collapsed Stairway. To the left of the door is a panel with nine different runes. The goal here is to press the four runes that you were able to view from the Scriptorium doorway. If your notebook was broken and you don't feel like walking all the way back there, here are the runes:

Sadly, there is not audio or visual indication that you pressed the correct runes. Only way to know is to just open the door. Head on through.

Relic Room

There are some fun relics on display, but can't interact with them. Just move through the hole in the wall.

East Stairs

Waiting in ambush for you are a murder of Lightning Crows!

General Strategy: If the crows are in formation, their HP bars stack and, with one semi-exception, they cannot be damaged. The goal is to break them apart and attack them individually.

How to Defeat:

  • Round 1: The crows will attack in formation. Cast Firestorm to hit them all at once and loosen their formation.
  • Round 2: The crows will scatter, and attack "individually." Cast Ignite on one of them to inflict Burning status on it.
  • Round 3: The crows will form up again and attack. Attack once more with Firestorm to break them up, and Burning will knock an extra 20HP off of the inflicted crow.
  • Round 4: After the crows scattered attack, cast Ignite on a different crow than Round 2. Now we have two crows inflicted with Burning.
  • Round 5 and onward: Repeat this cycle, casting Ignite on a different crow each time they're scattered. Before long, their HP will all be burned up.

Once the Lightning Crows are defeated, you'll gain the Blizzard spell. Keep moving down this very long stairway and into the next room.

Djinn Prison

Make your way over to the conspicuous Djinn chained to the floor in the center of the room to initiate a battle.

General Strategy: As long as there are orbs in play, you cannot damage the Djinn himself.

How to Defeat:

  • Round 1: The Djinn will summon four fire orbs. Target one of them and cast Ice Shards on it.
  • Round 2: The Djinn will attack you, which has the added benefit of healing the fire orb you just attack. Not to worry, though, because it still has Freezing status on it. Cast Winter's Grasp, and the extra damage will knock out one of the orbs.
  • Round 3: He responds by giving up on his fire orbs and summoning four ice orbs. Cast Firestorm to destroy all four of the orbs.
  • Round 4: The Djinn gives up on his orb friends and just attacks you. Respond by casting Ignite to get some Burning going.
  • Round 5 and onward: Just keep attacking. Burning will slowly whittle away at his overall health, so between that and your regular spells he should fall before you do.

You'll gain the Frost Giant spell for winning this encounter. Have a chat with the Djinn, and he'll recharge your Time Orb and give you a riddle to solve. To find the solution, make your way all the way back to the Turret.

Turret

Use your Time Orb (Activated) on the floating pink crystal to wind back time. The affects are localized to this room, but it's still a handy trick. One of the relics under glass happens to be an imp. Of all the things that are widely known about imps, the fact that they all have skulls is one of them. Walk around the relic circle until you reach the back-left wall, which has a slot in it which should highlight. Use the Hammer Handle on the slot, then use the new lever twice to rotate the relics. The imp should now be located in front of the window. Use the Time Orb on the crystal again to return the room to the present. Sometime during the intervening years, the part of the wall around the window collapsed and killed the imp. Pick up the Imp's Skull and return to the Djinn.

Djinn Prison

Give the Imp Skull to the Djinn to answer his riddle, and he'll reward you with the Lightning Strike spell. As a fun bonus, the door behind him is now unlocked. Open it up and head through to finish Level 1.

Congratulations on completing Level 1!

Onward to Level 2!
