Part V: Beneath the Monkey Head

Luckily Elaine had previously taken the ludicrous action of writing down the location of Monkey Island, so we just sail there. One the way to the Monkey Head, Elaine calls Guybrush out on how many lives he ruined this time around. Which is brilliant...love that one of the games called this out, comedy gold. Eventually, you'll enter the Monkey Head alone.

Follow the only path for a bit. You'll have a chance to chat with Wally and Flambé along the way, but otherwise this part is uneventful. At the end of the twisting path, just jump off in the lava.

...or onto a ledge. One of the two. Enter the nearby door, and Guybrush will shout out a challenge and cause LeChuck to seal the way forward.

Only the Organized Pirate Will Pass

Head to the right into the next room to find a Jolly Monkey statue. Use the mug on the statue, then pick up the pebble on the ground. Upon examination, this appears to be a stone coin. Head to the right into the next room to find the Squinting Monkey statue, which could surely use a Monocle. In the next room, use the Knife on the Frustrated Monkey statue. The final room has another stone coin you should take, and also a Monkey With Parrot statue that hungers for some crackers. Going to the right again leads you to the entrance room. Go back through the rooms to take back the mug and the knife. Before you leave here to go down the stairs, look at the top of the doorway. You should spot the top of a face, and make a note about what it looks like. Once that image is seared into your brain, head downstairs.

Only the Observant Pirate Will Pass

Once more Guybrush alerts LeChuck to his presence and has the way forward blocked off. Pick up the stone coin from the ground, then head right to find the Captain Monkey Beard statue. Ignore him for now and go right again. Take the stone coin near the First Swab statue, then head to the right again. Snap up the stone coin in the middle of the room, which should give you a total of five. If you have less, you may need to backtrack upstairs and try to find those.

Time to fill up the statue chests! Place a coin into the Cabin Monkey statue's chest, then head to the left and put two coins into the First Swab's chest. Going left one more time returns you to the Captain Monkey Beard statue, which begs for three coins. Use your last two stone coins, then plop in your one remaining Piece o' Eight. This will open up the exit door. Once again, pay attention to the top of the doorway and make note of the carving that resembles the lower part of a face. Head downstairs.

Only the Blood Thirsty Pirate Will Pass

Once more Guybrush is the instrument of his own inability to progress. Head to the right to see a Sad Monkey statue. Stab it with the knife, then head to the right. The Screaming Monkey statue also needs a good old fashioned stabbin'. In the final room to the right is a...broken statue?!?!?! Not to worry! Head back into one of the other two rooms and use the mug on the stream of ichor flowing from the stabbed statue. Pour the contents of the mug into the drain at the base of the broken statue. The door will open, and reveal a year at the top of the doorway. Write that down next to your doodles of the face halves and descend the staircase.

Endgame

There's a fork in the path right before the stairs. Take the lower path and examine the stone slab in the lava. It says:

After four extra years out at sea
Their peglegs grew weak at the knees
Three steps right, but two left,
until they fell off the deck
And they met Davey Jones for some tea

Now head up the small staircase to the giant stone wheel. The center wheel shows a year, and the other two show faces. Match the top and bottom faces with the ones you saw on the doorways, then do the same for the year in the center. Once you have those lines up, we just need to follow the directions from the stone slab. Move the outer wheel three times, then inner wheel twice, and the center four times (can be done in any order). The door will open and you exit to...

...the alleyway in Mêlée?! Exit the alley and talk with Stan, who will hand you his keys. If you want, you can liberate the key from the animatronic Locke Smith and use it on the golden Secret chest to obtain the ultimate Secret of Monkey Island. Whether or not you reclaim this amazing prize, use the keys Stan gave you to shut off the lights at all of the displays. Then talk to Elaine and let her know you're ready to leave.

The final thing to do is tell Boybrush what the Secret actually was. The only thing this effects is a quick scene after the credits roll. Congrats on finishing this game!
